2. Prayagraj – at the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati,
3. Ujjain – on the banks of shipra river
4. Nashik – on the banks of Godavari river

We should see that there are generally four types of fairs such as

How are fairs formed?
Fairs of Hinduism and fairs of Muslim community
Fairs of Hinduism are according to Vikram Savant.
The fairs of the Muslim community are according to the Hijri savant.

How did the word fair originate?
The fair originated from two words.
Hemchandracharya gave the word for the fair – “Melamela”.
Mela is a Marathi word, but was derived from a Sanskrit word.
Most fairs are held in spring.
In the Morya era, Emperor Ashoka used the word “Samaj” for a fair in his inscription.

Seasonal fairs
Most fairs are held during monsoon season i.e. Shravan and Bhadarva months.
Such fairs are held on the banks of rivers, in the religious places of history, in the birth places of saints and mahants.
There is a word – “hat” – that is, when the tribals go shopping, it is called hat. For this, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday are implemented.
Currently approximately 1527 fairs are held.
According to Hindu calendar 1293 fairs are held.
According to Vikram Savant, 1407 fairs are held.
Muslim fairs fill up to 175.
Most fairs are held in Surat district and least fairs are held in Dangs.
